They call it the Commanders Cup.
I had the chance to play in a charity golf tournament this week on Hill Air Force Base in Layton, UT. It was raising money for the museum on the base.
Now, I play a lot of golf and I have had the chance to play some of the nicest courses in the world. But, this course was different and inspiring and LOUD.
As we struggled our way from tee to green, we were treated to a noisy air show. The runway at Hill was just down the hill from the 18 hole course and about every 4 minutes the fighters jets roared down the runway and up into the Utah sky. You could feel the jet power in the ground. The local pro we played with said it seemed to give him move power in his drives.
And, if that were not enough to inspire you, at 5 p.m. we had to stop. Over the base loudspeakers they play the National Anthem, and everyone has to salute or place their hand on their heart. We we on the 13th hole.
The jets, the music the golf....it was all there.
and one more thing...all of this on the seventh anniversary of 9-11. Bittersweet.
