Written by Doug G. WareABC 4.comFARMINGTON - Two people were jailed late Tuesday and three were taken to the hospital with serious injures, after a car reportedly ran a red light and slammed forcefully into an SUV, officials said.
Farmington authorities say the vehicle was traveling along Farmington Park Road when it ran the red light. The SUV was in the process of exiting I-15 when it was hit by the car, investigators said.
The force of the impact flipped the SUV over. Four people were riding inside -- three of whom were hospitalized with serious injuries.
One person in the car was hurt. Two others -- including the car's driver -- fled on foot, but were later tracked down and arrested near a set of railroad tracks, officials said.
Investigators believe the driver of the car might have been drinking prior to the crash.
"There was a considerable amount of alcohol in the vehicle," said Cpl. Dale Scow of the Farmington Police Department. "The driver was taken into custody and the investigating officer will conduct a full sobriety test to determine if it was DUI."
The extent of the victims' injuries was not immediately known.
