DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Utah National Guard confirmed Friday that one of its full-time employees, Sgt. 1st Class Craig J. Dowen of Tooele was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after being arrested for enticement of a minor over the Internet.
Dowen is the chief marketing specialist for the Utah Army National Guard, responsible for promotion of the Utah Army National Guard brand and logo with local businesses, sports teams, and other entities.
He has been in the military for more than 20 years and joined the Utah Guard in 2002.
“We are absolutely shocked and disturbed by these allegations,” said Utah Guard spokesman Maj. Hank McIntire. “If the accusations prove true, we categorically reject such behavior as absolutely contrary to what the Guard stands for.”
“We are an organization of values, and we expect all of our members to live by them,” added McIntire. “We are charged with keeping our citizens safe from harm and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
The Utah Guard plans to cooperate fully with the authorities in investigating the matter to ensure that the innocent are protected and justice is served.
