SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Police are there for us everyday, but in one particular case it is a business professor who's the hero to a local officer, and that makes him Salt Lake City's ‘Citizen of the Month.’

On October 20th, Officer Brad Birmingham had a medical issue while patrolling the avenues. He crashed his bicycle and ended up unconscious.

Karl Lins found Birmingham. He didn't have a cell phone, so he pressed the officer's panic button and flagged down a car to get help.

Birmingham said, “I can't even describe how grateful I am to him. I've been a police officer here for 19 years, you deal with a lot of stuff, but this has opened my eyes to how fast things can change.”

Lins took the honor all in stride and said, “i can't imagine people would just ride away from them, especially when it's an officer. Truthfully i don't feel like i did anything unusual. i just responded to what your instinct would be.”

Officer Birmingham is doing better and is back on light duty.
